19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has won twenty-one victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

The player's defensive strategy and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the top level was finished.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a tight third set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner earned the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
