Severe Rains Worsen Situation for Uprooted Gazans, Agencies Alert
Heavy storms over the last seven days have worsened the already dire living conditions of the vast number of displaced residents in the Gaza Strip, as stated by humanitarian organizations.
"Horrendous" Conditions Creates Serious Threats
A representative described the recent storm as "awful", with precipitation so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water gathered on the streets.
"These conditions was exceptionally difficult for the people. The downpours were so strong... And the winds were so strong," said the official.
Authorities voice grave concern that minors sheltering in tents in wet garments will contract hypothermia and additional ailments.
Fatalities and Significant Destruction
Medical officials have stated that one baby has passed away from the cold and a minimum of 11 other people have died in roof cave-ins due to the storms.
Further statements indicate a increased number of casualties. Spokespeople stated that multiple structures had collapsed completely and many others had sustained partial collapse.
- Nearly 55,000 families impacted by rains.
- More than 40 emergency shelters submerged.
- Countless residents required to relocate again.
Relief Operations Deemed Insufficient
Groups have escalated shipments of tents, warm covers and garments since the truce began, but they stress there is still not enough aid reaching those in need.
"We are working relentlessly to deliver that relief and to allocate it, but the size of the needs is so vast that we continue to see thousands of individuals and minors who are really struggling every night," cautioned one spokesperson.
Future Concerns and Ceasefire Plans
The subsequent part of the ceasefire encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with future administration, the pullback of military forces, and other provisions.
Aid bodies have highlighted the need for "greater and continuous aid to address urgent and ongoing needs."
The hostilities was initiated by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Subsequent actions have caused a substantial number of fatalities in the area, based on health ministry figures.
